Sir Philip Green (the man behind the Topshop empire) turned his attention to the plus size world, hosting the London Fashion Week’s first-ever plus-size fashion show for his brand Evans.
“This is a big and important part of the market and we need to be seen to embrace it,” Green said of the move. “You cannot ignore the market place. And you can’t be defensive about it, or apologize about [plus-size fashion]. Why should the category be any different from petite?”
We walked around all afternoon, and just before the sun began to set, we found a sleepy apartment block, an idyll compared to the noisy, sweaty streets outside. The courtyard was bathed in the shade of the laundry and plants hanging from the floors above. We made our way to the top, trying not to disturb the residents. The dusk welcomed us with its cool glow.
